Phishing
This type of fraud is quite common for people to fall victim to. You may receive an email that closely resembles correspondents from a legitimate source such as your bank, Amazon, PayPal, HMRC or the Royal Mail. The email will urge you to log in, claiming reasons like your account being locked, a significant money transfer or a pending delivery.
Some fraudsters may attach a virus in the form of a document to the email, such as a form for you to complete.
The identify fraudulent emails, always check the sender details before clicking anything on the email. An authentic email will always come from a recognisable domain e.g. noreply@yourbank.com. Look out for generic titles like Dear Customer or Dear Sir instead of your actual first name.
